France Accounts for Two-Thirds of Physical Assaults Against Crypto Holders in 2026
Physical assaults targeting holders of digital financial assets increased in the first half of 2026, with 52 attacks reported worldwide, marking a 33% rise compared to the previous year. France recorded 33 incidents, accounting for nearly two-thirds of global cases. The financial damages related to these assaults amount to approximately $124 million. Many holders choose not to report these incidents, which could underestimate the figures. Criminal groups are adapting their methods, favoring social engineering over hacking. Fund managers and wealthy investors are modifying their security protocols by adopting multi-signature controls and maintaining the confidentiality of their assets. The rise in attacks underscores the need for increased vigilance regarding the management of the digital footprint of industry players.
