Claude Fable Solves 87-Year-Old Mathematical Problem
Claude Fable 5 has solved the Jacobian conjecture, a mathematical problem formulated in 1939 by Ott-Heinrich Keller. Researcher Levent Alpöge from Anthropic announced this breakthrough on X, thanking the Claude Fable 5 model for its work. The conjecture raised the question of whether a machine could always recover two original numbers after transforming them through addition and multiplication. Although the consensus was that this was possible, no counterexample had been found for 87 years. Claude Fable 5 produced a counterexample in the form of a polynomial mapping from three-dimensional complex space, thereby invalidating the conjecture. This resolution has generated excitement within the scientific community, with mathematicians like Jared Duker Lichtman from Stanford analyzing the result. This announcement comes shortly after OpenAI claimed to have solved an 80-year-old conjecture posed by Paul Erdős. These advancements in artificial intelligence highlight the rapid progress in complex reasoning, drawing attention and investment towards this sector, at the expense of other assets like cryptocurrencies.
